Isaiah 31:1 - 31:9

The previous Isaiah 30 Chapter was truly remarkable, in that It contains much prophecy for the latter days up to Christ's return, and even into Christ's "thousand years" reign of Revelation 20, and then into God's Eternity after all wickedness is cast into the "lake of fire" ('Tophet' of Isa.30:33). The latter parts of Isaiah 30 clearly refers to events that were not only history, but also serve as "ensamples" to us upon whom the ends of the world are come (1 Corinthians 10:11).
This Isaiah 31 Chapter is going to continue God's Message about the 'woes', and concerning those of His children who remain rebellious against Him, and instead turn to almost anything and everything else, besides Him. Even though this Chapter historically applied to Jerusalem and the "house of Judah" when the king of Assyria came upon them, it is also a blueprint for both 'houses' of Israel for the latter days (see also Ezekiel 29). God uses the roles of Pharaoh and the kings of Assyria and Babylon as a blueprint for the latter day role of the antichrist. It's very important to realize that metaphorical blueprint link within these Isaiah studies.
Beginning this study we ask a Word of Wisdom from our Heavenly Father in Christ Jesus' Name, Amen.

Isa 31:1    Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!

This is the fourth 'woe' so far, and it is one about deception. It's of those who put their trust elsewhere instead of on The Father and The Son. For today, it can occur with a leader thinking his strength is in forces of arms, technology, or economic power and wealth. For believers on The Savior it can be misplaced trust on a religious system of man that tells a believer they don't need to study God's Word for their self, but to just believe, and they'll be raptured out of here before the tribulation. Each one of us have to make a choice who we will listen to.
Historically, this applied to Judah in Jerusalem enlisting Pharaoh's help against the coming king of Assyria (Sennacherib). We learned in the previous Chapter that Pharaoh's strength was to sit still and give no help.

Isa 31:2     Yet He also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back His words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.

Who can work against what God has ordained to occur? Our Heavenly Father is able to cause misplaced help to fail. Recall Isaiah 5:18-19 about those who "draw iniquity with cords of vanity", sinning for show and tell to try and get as many as will to follow their iniquity. The "house of evildoers" take pride in showing joy in their evil ways, and pull their cartload of sins around like a parade. That's done in hopes that the deceived will fall into their trap, and gain innocent people's trust. To put trust in the house of evildoers is to be left as that beacon on a hill mentioned back in Isaiah 30:17 (a bare naked pole of a tree with no branches nor leaves, instead of an all-year-round evergreen).

Isa 31:3     Now the Egyptians are men, and not GOD; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out His hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.

Our Heavenly Father makes a very important point here. Why would man put his trust upon the things of flesh, instead of God Who is Spirit? Can the flesh overcome God's Spirit? No way. As our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 15:5, "I am the Vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing."
The main reason why many refuse to have faith in The LORD is because they rely only upon what their flesh eyes can see. Old Israel had this problem when GOD only was their KING, yet Israel still wanted a flesh king like the nations around them, because they needed to 'see' something in the flesh in order to believe (1 Samuel 8). That really hurt our Heavenly Father's feelings, for He only is our Rightful and True KING, and yet His people still rejected Him then as many still do to this day.

Isa 31:4     For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, "Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

Our Heavenly Father is saying that just as a strong lion will not ease up when attacking its prey, neither will God be deterred to the side by men nor any other. What God said He will do, He will accomplish, as He is not man, and will not go back on His Word. He will rise up to fight against the wicked ones as a Lion upon its prey at Zion in Jerusalem (Zephaniah 3:5-8). The time when our LORD will come down to fight for mount Zion is still future to us, and is the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth (Zech.14; Rev.16; Rev.11:15; Isaiah 42).

Isa 31:5     As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also He will deliver it; and passing over He will preserve it."

Here's yet another verse that was not only historical towards Judah in Jerusalem when the king of Assyria came up against it, but this is also future to us as a pattern for our LORD's second coming to silence all wickedness, and to preserve Jerusalem forever (see Psalms 132; 125; Isaiah 51:11; Micah 4; Zechariah 14). The "birds flying" comparison is as a great eagle that preserves its nest of young ones.
There is much more revealed from the Hebrew of this verse. The phrase "passing over" is the Hebrew word 'pacach', and is the root word from which the word 'Passover' is derived from (Strong's 6452 & 6453 - Pecach). God told the captive children of Israel while they were in Egypt to observe His Passover which became a symbol of His Covering over them in protection. God's Passover shielded them when He passed through the land of Egypt during the night, and slew all the firstborn of the Egyptians (Exodus 12).
Per 1 Corinthians 5:7, Christ Jesus now is our Passover sacrificed for us. Our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth was crucified on the cross at the exact timing which God gave for the Passover lamb to be slain, per Leviticus 23 and John 19:14-31 (reckoned by Hebrew calendar). For the latter days when Christ Jesus our Passover returns to melt the works of man from off this earth, He will be a Covering over those who believe on and put their trust in Him. Christ is That ROCK Which the children of Israel who believed were preserved by (1 Corinthians 10:1-4). Christ now is our Passover sacrificed for us, as He is the final and Perfect Sacrifice for all time (Hebrews 10:12).
Is Christ Jesus your Passover Covering for the latter days of GOD's consuming fire that will consume the evil from off this earth? Are you allowing Christ to be your Passover for the day of destruction upon His enemies, or are you listening to those in confusion (Babel) who tell you to fly away to Jerusalem where the false messiah will set himself up in a rebuilt Temple? (Ezekiel 13; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4). Did God remove the children of Israel in Egypt from off this earth in order to put His Covering of protection over them? No, The LORD had no need to, for His Passover was upon those with faith who observed. When God will tremble this earth again at His coming, are those in Christ to have fear of that Day?...

Ps 46:1    God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2   Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Even though this earth will tremble at His great wrath upon the wicked, His who trust in Him have no need to fear such an event coming upon this earth (see Isaiah 43). Man will not bring God's consuming fire upon this earth. GOD Himself will do it, because of Satan and his children's works. And if our trust is in The Father through His Son, our Passover Lamb, then we have no need of fear.
Many of the doomsayers serve as part of the flood of lies out of the serpent's mouth (Rev.12:15-17 of Satan as that "serpent" and "dragon" casting lies of deception out of his mouth). Those lies out of the serpent's mouth through his servants are designed to scare you into the lap of the coming false messiah who comes first, and away from the later true 7th trumpet timing return by our Lord Christ Jesus. It's to get you out from under our Lord's Covering for the time of that "last trump" (1 Cor.15). The "sudden destruction" from these events of God's wrath upon the wicked in the earth will not be in a time of wars, but it will come at a time when many will be saying "Peace and safety..." (1 Thessalonians 5; Rev.18).
The world events we are seeing now are to bring in Satan's final world 'beast' kingdom over all the earth. When the false messiah world king is setup in Jerusalem in the future, that's when the false peace of one world government will occur. To preserve Jerusalem for His sake and His servant David's sake, God is going to flatten it at Christ's second coming, and end the false reign of antichrist in a flesh temple upon Mount Zion. It's simply going to be an act of renovation, in prep for Christ's thousand years reign (Mark 13:1-3; Zechariah 14).

Isa 31:6    Turn ye unto Him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.
7   "For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.

Again, turn unto our Heavenly Father through His Son Jesus Christ, and not towards man. The LORD is saying turn to Him now, while there is still time! If you have put your trust in idols made with hands, then cease from worshipping idols and things of this world, and turn back to The LORD. As written our Heavenly Father seeks those who worship Him to do so "in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23-24). That means don't put your trust on man, nor idols made by man, nor on any 'system' of man, but put place your trust in our Heavenly Father through Christ Jesus.
What time does this "For in that day" apply to? It means The Day of The LORD, when God will put an end to this flesh age time by His consuming fire (Hebrews 12:25-29; Joel 2; Isaiah 13; Zephaniah 1; 2 Peter 3:10-12). At that "last trump" event all alive upon this earth will be changed from the flesh to their spiritual body (1 Corinthians 15). That event will begin the "thousand years" reign of our Lord Jesus Christ on earth (Rev.20). That "thousand years" period is 'The Day of The LORD'. As we discovered in previous Isaiah Chapters, that will also be a time of great teaching. Those who erred in spirit will come to understanding, and even the murmurers will learn sound doctrine (Isaiah 29:24). All knees will bow to Christ our KING (Philippians 2:10-11; Romans 14:11; Isaiah 45:22-23; Psalms 72:9; 1 Corinthians 15:23-28).

Isa 31:8    Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.

Recall back to Isaiah 14 where God made a comparison of the historical king of Assyria as a role type for Lucifer (Satan) himself. Note that the Assyrian (Satan) will not fall by the sword of flesh man ("a mean man" is the sole Hebrew word 'adam' - Strong's 120). Again, the king Assyria is a type for what will occur upon Satan when our LORD will accomplish these events of His return to this earth. Let's turn forward to Isaiah 37 and note what befell the servants of the historical king of Assyria, and note that as a type of working to occur upon Satan's servants in the latter days also:

Isa 37:35    "For I will defend this city to save it for Mine own sake, and for My servant David's sake."
36  Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
37  So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

The above verses begin with God declaring He will defend and save Jerusalem, for His Own sake and for His servant David (see 1 Kings 11:12-13; 36; Jer.23:5-6; Jer.30:9; Ezek.37:24). Historically, God sent the angel of the LORD to smite the camp of the king of Assyria when he came up against Jerusalem under Hezekiah, king over the "house of Judah".
Keep in mind that this historical king of Assyria is symbolic for Satan as the antichrist for the latter day tribulation time, and he will be setup in Jerusalem as king for a short, very short period ("five months" per Rev.9). 185,000 dead were slain by the Angel of The LORD within the Assyrian's camp. Per Revelation 11:13, seven thousand of Satan's locust army are to be slain by the great earthquake in Jerusalem, which occurs at Christ's second coming upon the Mount of Olives. The king of Assyria then returned to his abode of Nineveh, which by this blueprint represents Satan's defeat by our Lord Jesus' coming, and that wicked being locked up in his abode of the 'pit' (abyss) for one thousand years of Christ's reign on earth. This will occur not by man's hand, but by God's Hand, just as God slew 185,000 of the Assyrian's camp by His Breath.
Per Isaiah 14, the kings of the earth will be those who are "discomfited" at that time of Christ's return, when they also will be cast into the pit along with Satan. And they will look at that wicked one while in hell and say to him, "Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?" (Isa.14:8-12; see also Isa.37:6-7).

Isa 31:9    And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign," saith the LORD, Whose fire is in Zion, and His furnace in Jerusalem.

This time the phrase "pass over" here is Hebrew abar, meaning 'to cross over' (Strong's 5674). It is not speaking of The Passover Lamb Jesus Christ, Who is our Protector through the tribulation. It's about the historical king of Assyria, but as a type for Satan in the latter days, retreating back to his dwelling.
As per the historical king of Assyria returning to his abode after the great slaughter of his men, serving as a blueprint, Satan will then return to his stronghold of the pit of hell after these events of Christ's slaughter of the seven thousand. God is a "consuming fire" per Hebrews 12:29. And His Fire will especially be in Zion where this will take place. On the 'day of The LORD', those in Christ will look over into the 'pit' of hell at Satan, and say, "Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?" (Isa.14:16-17).
In that day, we will sing out for joy, for the accuser of our people will be in chains with the spiritual dead who worked against our Heavenly Father, His Son Christ Jesus and His servants on earth.

Peace to you in Christ Jesus,
Dave Ramey
